Messmer’s UV Plus is on it’s way to our store down in West Hillhurst and we can’t be more excited.  We’ll have a full stock of all 15 colours on hand, and free sample pints to give away when the season starts.
UV Plus is a penetrating deck stain, wood stain and oil finish that beautifies and protects exterior wood, providing a natural appearance. It is ideal for use on cedar, pine and redwood and comes in a variety of tones and semi-transparent colors. UV Plus contains fungicides and UV absorbers of the highest quality. It does not form a surface film when properly applied and is not subject to peeling or flaking.
Just a couple of reminders about staining your deck this summer:
Do I need to prep?
- Always!  At the very least, you can get away with just cleaning your deck, but depending on what the previous coating is you may need to remove the coating.  If it’s new wood, you might have to remove the mill-glaze.  Give us a call to figure out what you need to prep your deck!
What about  minimum temperature?  And moisture? Â
- Minimum 10 degrees Celsius and no more that 27 degrees Celsius. Â Also not in direct sunlight!
What about a clear coat?
- Nope.  Aside from beautifying your wood, the other purpose for staining your wood is to protect it from harmful UV rays.  Clear coats without any pigment don’t offer any UV protection.  Most transparent/semi-transparent stains will contain a transparent iron oxide pigments which absorb UV rays but allow visible light to pass through.
