SICO Proluxe (formerly Sikkens) stains are high-quality oil-based stains that perform well in Calgary’s climate, are easy-to-apply, and offer superior UV and moisture resistance.
The translucent SICO stains we carry bring out the natural beauty of your wood, and the advanced technology of the resin made of flexible alkyd offers a luxurious, durable finish similar to that of a high-quality varnish. SICO Stains are resistant to adverse weather conditions, flaking and cracking, and perform well on richer woods, like cedar.
We carry three lines of SICO Stains – SRD, Cetol 1 & 23, and Dek. All three serve different purposes – SRD is a fairly universal stain that works well on multiple surfaces, is easy to apply in a single coat, and can be repeated when necessary. Cetol 1 & 23 are multi-coat system for vertical surfaces (siding, etc.) that gives a luxurious look and finish, while SICO Dek is a 2-coat system in a satin finish for decks. Each has advantages and disadvantages, and we are happy to help discuss your options for your project.
Absolutely! New wood still needs to be set up properly to accept a stain. Cedar can have a mill glaze, which will prevent the stain from soaking in. Sanding or pressure washing will open the wood up to accepting a stain.
