Messmer’s UV Plus is a premium deck stain and natural wood finish which protects and beautifies exterior wood. For use on decks, siding, fences, log homes, and other wood projects. UV Plus is an oil based penetrating wood finish suitable for decks, log homes, wood siding, fencing and other exterior wood surfaces. Specifications

• Finish: Penetrating oil/alkyd stain — natural matte look, not a film-forming coating (no measured gloss/sheen rating; it won’t look shiny)
• Coverage: 100–150 sq ft/gal on rough wood, 150–250 sq ft/gal on smooth wood
• Dry Time: ~24 hours under good drying conditions before exposure to rain/foot traffic
• Volume Solids: ~45%
• VOC: <250 g/L — meets Canadian VOC regulations for sale in all provinces
• Colours: 15 available, including Natural, Natural Cedar, Natural Redwood, Natural Pine/Fir, and a range of browns and grays

Application & Prep

UV Plus is a one-coat system — there’s no separate primer or topcoat. Surface prep is what determines how well it performs:

• Weathered/grey wood: Clean and brighten with Messmer’s Wood & Deck Cleaner + Brightener before staining, then let dry 24–48 hours.
• New wood: Let new redwood age 6–8 weeks before staining; other new woods should be clean and dry.
• Application: Brush, applicator pad, roller, garden or airless sprayer (0.015–0.019” tip). Maintain a wet edge; wipe off any excess that hasn’t absorbed within 30–60 minutes.
• Recoat/maintenance: Clean and re-brighten the wood with the same 2-step system, then reapply — no sanding or stripping needed for routine recoats.
