Before anything else: the substrate must already be waterproofed.
Concretta FS is the finish coat, not a waterproofing system. On new construction the wall assembly has to be waterproofed first with a membrane such as Kerdi or a liquid-applied membrane. Your tile supplier or building centre carries these — we don't. Skipping this step is the single most common way a microcement shower fails.
Going over existing sound tile? The tile assembly is already your waterproofing. Nothing further needed.

Measure and add up each surface. A typical alcove shower runs 90–120 sq ft of wall; a standard pan is 12–15 sq ft.
Quartz Primer size — one coat. A quart is plenty for a single shower.

Tools
Meoded's TDS calls for a stainless steel trowel or spatula to lay both coats, and a foam roller for every coat of sealer. Tools are discounted with the rest of the kit.

Why the questions matter
Walls only
Shower walls, a tub surround, or a backsplash. You need PlasterGuard and nothing else. Meoded's own TDS describes it as the waterproofing top coat for Concretta shower applications — three coats minimum, four for best results, rolled on with a foam roller.
If you're only doing walls, you do not need PlasterSeal Plus. Don't let anyone sell you one.
Anything horizontal
A shower floor or pan, a bench seat, a niche shelf, a curb, a countertop like the one here. Horizontal surfaces hold standing water and take foot traffic, so Meoded specifies a urethane topcoat: one diluted coat of PlasterGuard, then two coats of PlasterSeal Plus, which carries roughly twice the abrasion resistance of a standard urethane.
It is the single most expensive item in the kit, which is exactly why it's worth being sure whether your job actually calls for it.

Measure your actual square footage before ordering. A 50 lb pail of Concretta covers 80–100 sq ft over two coats depending on how textured your surface is and how heavy a hand you have. Rough surfaces and heavy textures land at the bottom of that range. The calculator above sizes to 80 sq ft per pail on purpose.
It also favours whole pails over a stack of gallons even when the gallons work out slightly cheaper, and the reason is worth knowing: running out mid-wall is the one thing you cannot easily recover from. A fresh batch mixed to a slightly different consistency will not colour-match, and the join will show. Fewer, larger containers means fewer chances for that to happen.
Tools, and what each one is for
- Stainless steel trowel or spatula — lays both coats of Concretta. Spatulas suit tight areas, niches and detail; a full trowel is faster on open wall. Browse the range.
- Plastic trowel or a wet sponge — worked in a circular motion over the first coat to expose the aggregate.
- 6" foam roller — every coat of sealer is rolled, never brushed. A nap roller leaves stipple in a clear coat that cannot be sanded out. Sleeves load up with cured sealer between coats and are not worth cleaning, so plan on two or three.
- Clear silicone — at the wall-to-floor junction, pan corners, drain flange, and around valve and spout escutcheons. These are movement joints; microcement is rigid and will hairline crack if you plaster straight through them. Apply after the sealer has dried, not before.
- Drill and mixing paddle — Concretta is mixed from powder, and PlasterSeal Plus is a three-part mix that needs real blending.
How long it takes
Concretta is not a weekend job. The cure times are not optional, and rushing them is how showers leak.
- Quartz Primer (new substrate only) — 3–5 hours to dry
- First coat of Concretta — at least 12 hours before the second
- Second coat — minimum 72 hours cure before any sealer touches it
- PlasterGuard — 3–4 coats, 1–2 hours between each
- PlasterSeal Plus (horizontal only) — two coats 50 minutes apart, then 24 hours
- Before using the shower — 24–48 hours after the final sealer coat
Realistically, that is the better part of a week from first primer to first shower.
Two things worth knowing
Concretta has a working time of 45 minutes to an hour and a half once mixed, so only mix what you will use. Mixing separate batches with different amounts of water — or rehydrating a batch that has started to stiffen — will shift the colour, and it shows up as banding across the finished wall.
An AntiSkid additive is recommended for floor applications, one bottle per gallon of PlasterSeal Plus. We don't stock it — ask and we'll bring it in with your material.
